The project "United in Culture - Welcoming Ukrainian Refugees No. 2022-1-LV01-KA210-ADU-000082312" which we had the pleasure of co-implementing with the Latvian coordinating organization Radosas Idejas was included in the compilation of 15 good practices of the European Union's Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programs in providing support to people affected by warfare.

Within the framework of this project, together with the Latvian organization, we are providing from September 2022 to the end of February 2024, over 200 Ukrainian refugees with support in learning the Polish/Latvian language and in activities conducive to settling into a new reality in a foreign country. PROJECT OVERVIEW

This is an Erasmus+ Small scale partnership project.

The general objective of the project is to provide welcoming services to the Ukrainian refugees, based in the Latvian/Polish language, culture and nature, so that the refugees get to know better our countries and our people and at the same time gain positive emotions to process the experiences in their home country and on their escape.
The specific objectives of the project are:
- to provide Ukrainian refugees an opportunity to learn Latvian/Polish language through available language courses;
- to provide Ukrainian refugees an opportunity to get to know Latvian/Polish culture and nature;
- to create spaces for Latvian/Polish people and the Ukrainian refugees to meet and get to know each other.
The project complies with the horizontal priority "Inclusion and diversity in all fields of education, training, youth and sport" by offering a tailored welcoming programme to people with fewer opportunities - the Ukrainian refugee families (women, children and elderly) coming to Poland and Latvia - and contributing to creating inclusive environment by responding to the urgent needs of the community.
The project also contributes to the adult education priority "Developing forward-looking learning centres" by supporting local NGO (Creative Ideas and Green Elephant Foundation) in creating a learning environment that promotes socioeconomic inclusion and provides learning opportunities to all members of our communities.

The welcoming programme "United in Culture" includes the following activities designed for the Ukrainian refugees coming to Latvia and Poland:

- Latvian/Polish language courses (A1 or A2 level);

- creative workshops to introduce Latvian/Polish culture and art combined with outdoor activities to explore Latvian /Polish nature (e.g. hiking, excursions), visits to museums and other cultural spaces. The welcoming programme will be implemented in Riga, Latvia and Polish regions of our activity.
This activity will directly help to reach the project objective by providing welcoming services to the Ukrainian refugees, based in the Latvian/Polish language, culture and nature, so that the refugees get to know better our countries and our people and at the same time gain positive emotions to process their experiences.
More specifically, this activity will provide Ukrainian refugees an opportunity to learn Latvian/Polish language through available language courses, give an opportunity to get to know Latvian/Polish culture and nature and create spaces for Latvian/Polish people and the Ukrainian refugees to meet and get to know each other.
These activities will create preconditions for long-term integration of the new inhabitants and give them equal opportunities to participate in education, labour market and cultural exchange
