International EVS Partners Meeting

”DixIt Yourself!”
Erasmus+ Training Course for youth workers in Szeged, Hungary (01/11/2016 -08/11/2016).
Project implemented by Eurotender Association (Hungary) in partnership with Fundacja "Zielony Słoń".

SUMMARY

DixIt (from Latin dico, dicere) means "s/he said, told". Nowadays, Dixit is also a well-known game, based on storytelling, creative associations, and first of all on empathy and on introspection to the Others thoughts, feelings. Hundreds of people like to play Dixit, but we often use it in the youth work as a tool for different activities, besides the "origial card" more and more people create his/her own Dixit cards.

Every time when two people meet - there is a chance for intercultural learning. We believe if we take this learning into a deeper level and make the participants awareness for their own feelings, thoughts, preconceptions, and empathy for each other to grow, they will be able to see the possibility for deeper understanding. We would like to implement the "continuation" of our previous project, with the same approach of intercultality. The aim of the project titled "DixIt Yourself!" is supporting the intercultural approach in youth work, involving partners from European countries by enhancing the quality and acceptance of youth workers’ and other professionals’ work.

The project is based on the ideas, results of our tandem training course „Mentor(ed) – aspects of intercultural partnerships” (2015-2-HU02-KA105-000989), implemented by Eurotender in 2015.

There is no participation fee! Food, accommodation and local travel costs (only during the activity program) will be covered 100% by the grant from the Hungarian National Agency of Erasmus+. Travel costs reimbursement limit for Polish participants is 275 euro.

How to deepen the perception of Europe through international youth work.

Erasmus+ Youth workers mobility project (Training Course) by Intermundia a.s.b.l. (Belgium) in partnership with Fundacja "Zielony Słoń" (Poland).

Summary of the project

The aims of inter-national youth encounters are often defined as providing young people the opportunity to get to know to other countries, societies and cultures. This way the participant will be given the chance to learn about the “other”, but also more about himself/herself. Yet the concept of intercultural learning too much applies to the idea of one existing national culture, not considering the plurality and diversity of each country.
Therefore the seminar not only aims to discuss the impact of migration, modernization and globalization on today’s societies but also wants to provide space for debating strategies of how to integrate those developments into the methods of international youth education.
Furthermore international youth education should not only focus on creating solidarity and mutual understanding among youngsters from different nations but also should open the eyes of the youngsters for the diversity and plurality existing within their own country, realizing also the discrimination and social exclusion, that different members of their own countries societies are facing. Therefore international youth education should supply a platform for youngsters from different backgrounds to find out more about cultural diversity, to create a general sensibility, awareness and understanding among the people.

Main topics will be:
1. International youth education in an immigration society
2. Critical Analysis of existing concepts of culture
3. Plural societies
4. How can international youth organizations contribute to socially integration?
5. Origin and impact of Stereotypes, prejudices and how to apply to them in a more dimensional pedagogical approach
6. Diversity Pedagogies
7. Anti-discrimination education

Target Group:
Representatives of youth organizations that focus on international youth education (international youth exchanges, workcamps, volunteer-services etc.), youth workers and youth volunteers.

Brief Description of the training course
It is more than evident that nowadays, we are ushering an era of democratic disconnection. Accordingly, there is a widespread concern by EU about the declining engagement of civic life; citizens are less inclined to vote, to join political parties, to campaign for social causes, and finally to trust political processes. Young people in particular, are frequently described as alienated or apathetic. Hence, the questions have been raised owing to the declining of civic life are multiple and complex. Do the organizations of civil society motivate in a proper way the young people in order to transform them to active citizens? Do they actually use the right tools which correspond to the real and realistic conditions of the ordinary democratic systems?
Having in mind the problems and the real situation, this training will focus on providing answers to the above questions, mainly by forming an action plan whereby each of the organizations involved, will eventually be capable to activate all its members in the processes concerning democratic institutions in all possible means.
Whilst inevitably the Internet provides the ability to participate in society Online and promotes social inclusion, a special emphasis will be given to the new media society and particularly the Web, as a means of revitalizing civic life and democracy. Believing that just as the education has promoted democracy and economic growth, the Internet has the potential to benefit society as a whole, one of the main ramifications of the project will be based upon the active citizenship in the digital era. The working method will be based upon non-formal education.
